‡ why rough-draft?

You may be asking "Why the name rough-draft?". Well, after considering many different domain names to move my portfolio to, I opted for my favourite out of the list because of its association with web design. Each and every web site must first have a concept, an idea of how you want it to be. The next step is always a rough draft of what you are trying to achieve, which is my purpose, to help you get what you want out of your website. This is why I chose the name Rough-Draft.

‡ what is this?

This site is my online portfolio; a place where I can display my accomplishments and present my skills as a web designer, developer, and programmer.

Arriving into the web design scene back in October 2003, I have been absorbing all the knowledge and information from books, manuals, tutorials, articles, and members of forums, about all forms of web design and development. I am learning new things every day and practising to hone my abilities to improve my overall product.

With each new piece of information learnt, I have tried to implement the material into a form of tutorial, or article in the hopes of passing on my wisdom to other webmasters. This took the form of my first ever web project, http://www.joe2torials.com/, where most of my handiwork is now kept.

‡ who are you?

I am Joseph Skidmore, 20 years old from South Wales, (U.K.). I started designing websites while studying AVCE in ICT in College back in 2002.

I have undertaken many I.T courses and achieved my fair share of qualifications, as well as gaining the knowledge and experience that I embrace to this day. I have been mostly self taught on the Web, including learning how to use graphics programs, code various languages, accessibility, SEO, and managing websites. I have since been improving these skills ever since I learned they existed.

I have also been a student at The Open University, and have completed and passed the following courses;

I have recently competed my NVQ Level 3 in Business and Administration, this qualification mostly focuses on working together within a team and managing responsibilities in the workplace, but builds good knowledge in communication and teamwork. I am currently studying part time at the University of Glamorgan working on my 2 year HNC course in Computing, just approaching the end of my first year.
